The Romans History MMXVII

In his annual roundup, here’s Joe’s recap on what happened in 2017 (originally published on LinkedIn).

What a vintage year for the PR industry that was. Errrr.

Here’s our third year in links. XII months of blood, sweat and tequila.

Working with Facebook we partner with the Tate to launch Turner Prize Live, helping turn normal people into livestream art critics.

Those bantsmen at the ASA ban one of our ads. (We’d reshot the iconic Accrington Stanley ad for Black Cow vodka, substituting milk with voddy). It resulted in loads more free coverage, all of which embedded the ‘banned’ ad. LOL.

Romans str8 storm the PR Moment Awards winning Best Young PR, Best Financial Campaign, Best Social Campaign.

To launch Flight Club’s Bloomsbury Venue and dispel preconceptions about blokey darts, we wrote Darts: The Ballet. While not achieving huge critical acclaim, it did bang in loads of coverage. Until corrected, we’re going to describe it as The Most Written About Ballet of 2017 in our creds.

New Client Win Alert: Diageo.  🍸

New Client Win Alert: PlayStation. 🎮

The brilliantly talented Romans team of Jack Davy and Ottilie Ratcliffe beat 70 teams to represent the UK PR Industry in the Cannes Young Lions. They then came thru and won silver lions with this idea, should have been gold, the jury were mugs.

New Client Alert: Twitter.

No one died.

We create When Life Gives You Melons – a talent-studded eight episode podcast for lingerie brand Freya fronted by Maya Jama. It’s been in and out of the UK top 20 chart ever since. Until corrected, we’re going to describe it as the UK’s Most Successful Branded Podcast in our creds.

I got married. Weeeeey. #HeartEmoji

We hire Ant Smith, proud owner of the UK’s smallest penis, to front an ad campaign for at home blood test company, Thriva. “There’s Nothing Wrong With A Little Prick” after all. The ASA have yet to get in touch.

To prove how realistic Gran Turismo Sport is, we brokered a partnership between PlayStation and…the actual police. The feds. The 5.0. Turns out, playing GT makes you a better police driver. FACT.

We beat all the big boring agencies and won best Crisis agency for our work with The Macallan at The PRCA Awards.

We went out every night. 🎉🎉🎉

2017 was an epic year for us. We’ve doubled in headcount. Doubled in clients. Doubled in office space. Huge thanks to everyone that sent us a brief, sent us a CV or sent us home when we’d had enough. You the real MVPs. Here’s to smashing 2018.
