How do you open the conversation around breast self-examination when fear stops women before they even start?

Breast self-examination is easy to encourage and hard to do. Not because women don’t care, but because fear gets in the way. With ceramics studio Maison Terraē and integrative OB-GYN Dr. Mariana Barretto, we turned clay into a tool for self-examination, replacing skin with the ancient art of sculpting.

Around the table, women moulded ceramic jugs, were guided through a self-check, then deliberately added a lump confronting the fear of finding head-on.

By making awareness tactile and shared, we shifted behaviour from passive knowledge to active participation, turning private anxiety into a moment women could face together.
